چکیده

With the introduction of commercially available programmable legged robots, a generic software method for detection of abnormalities in the robots’ locomotion is required. Our approach is to gain satisfactory results using a bare minimum amount of hardware feedback; In most cases we are able detect faults using only the joint angle sensors. Methods for recognising several types of collision as well as a loss of traction are examined. We are particularly interested in applying such techniques to Sony AIBO robots in the RoboCup legged league environment. This investigation provided us with a technique that enabled us to detect collisions with reliable accuracy using limited training time.

Application of SVMs for Colour Classification and Collision Detection with AIBO Robots

This article addresses the issues of colour classification and collision detection as they occur in the legged league robot soccer environment of RoboCup. We show how the method of one-class classification with support vector machines (SVMs) can be applied to solve these tasks satisfactorily using the limited hardware capacity of the prescribed Sony AIBO quadruped robots. The experimental evalu...

Using Improved Object Detection in Robocup Soccer for Collision Avoidance and Recovery

RoboCup legged soccer is an international soccer competition between autonomous, four-legged robots. In past competitions, collisions between robots were common. My objective, therefore, was to augment the robots’ sensor systems to allow them to avoid and recover from such collisions; this would both speed up the game and enable the robots to dribble the ball around other players. I have increa...

Techniques for Improving Vision and Locomotion on the Sony AIBO Robot

The restricted setting and uniformly prescribed hardware of the Sony Legged League of RoboCup provide an environment for testing algorithms on autonomous robots with a view towards possible applications in real world situations. In this study we show how two techniques Support Vector Machines and Hill Climbing can be applied to problems faced by the robots in this league. We use Support Vector ...

Stiffness control of a legged robot equipped with a serial manipulator in stance phase

The ability to perform different tasks by a serial manipulator mounted on legged robots, increases the capabilities of the robot. The position/force control problem of such a robot in the stance phase with point contacts on the ground is investigated here. A target plane with known stiffness is specified in the workspace. Active joints of the legs and serial manipulator are used to exert the de...

Towards an advanced mobility of wheeled robots evolving on difficult terrain

The paper addresses the problem of mobility of wheeled locomotion on loose and/or rough soils. We study many solutions for improving traction and clearing performances of wheeled systems. The paper focus on (1) traction control of the rolling mode based on a torque limitation (2) traction performance using the crawling mode (or peristalsis mode) and (3) the stability control based on suspension...
